StoneWave · About

Gear for the long way out.

StoneWave is an outfitter for serious outdoor and overlanding customers, run by a small team that spent six years hand-picking a short catalogue of rooftop tents, portable power, expedition shelters and outdoor kitchens. Each item clears a strict 20-point evaluation and earns a slot only after a multi-week field rotation, equipment-grade rather than marketplace-thin.

Origin

An outfitter, not a marketplace.

StoneWave started in a workshop above a small garage in 2019, after our founder kept returning from Sierra and Baja trips with the same complaint: nobody selling expedition gear was actually using it. The catalogue grew from there — slowly, one item at a time — because every model we carry has to clear the same scorecard and survive the same field loop we run our own trips on.

Six years on, the team is still small, the catalogue is still short, and shortlists are still earned rather than negotiated. We test in weather, publish what fails, replace where the maker permits, and keep our standards where we started them.

“If a unit doesn’t survive our own trips, it doesn’t earn a listing on the site. That single rule has shaped everything StoneWave ships.”
Curation promise

The 20-point evaluation. Same for every maker.

Every prospective item is scored blind against twenty weighted axes covering margin floor, freight economics, warranty exposure, supplier reliability and field-test criteria — then it goes outside for the same multi-week rotation the team runs on its own trips.

Pass-on is threshold-led: any single axis below the floor is a no, regardless of how strongly the rest of the scorecard reads. There are no exceptions for marquee makers.
