Equipment for expeditions, not backyards.

Ridgemark is an outfitter for serious outdoor and overlanding customers. A short, vetted catalogue of rooftop tents, portable power, expedition shelters, outdoor kitchens and adventure mobility — each item hand-picked against a 20-point evaluation, and field-tested before it ships.

Sierra test loop · Aug 2026

1,800 km · 14 days · 0 failures

Every item is field-tested before it earns a listing. The Sierra test loop is the reason the catalogue is short.

The catalogue

Six categories. Every other idea rejected.

The catalogue stays short on purpose. These are the categories where Ridgemark can credibly say “we’ve used this, and we trust it.” Each holds a hand-picked roster of two to six items.

Curation

The 20-point evaluation. Same for every maker.

A prospective item has to clear margin, shipping economics, warranty exposure, supplier reliability and search demand — twenty weighted criteria, scored blind. Only then does it go to the field.

Scorecard · abridged

  • Gross margin /20
  • Freight cost /20
  • Warranty terms /20
  • Supplier reliability /20
  • Verified search demand /20
  • Returns history /20

Items scoring under threshold on any axis are passed on, regardless of how well they score elsewhere.

  1. Step 01

    Apply against the 20-point scorecard

Every prospective item is scored on margin, shipping economics, warranty exposure, supplier reliability and search demand — across twenty criteria. If it scores under threshold, it doesn’t leave the desk.

  2. Step 02

    Field-test under load

Gear is unboxed and used for at least one multi-week trip before it’s listed. We carry it, cook on it, sleep under it, park it in weather. The catalogue is what survived the test — not what looked good on a spec sheet.

  3. Step 03

Negotiate for service, not just price

We don’t chase the cheapest unit. We chase suppliers who honour warranty, ship spares, and answer the phone six months later. That costs slightly more up front and considerably less over the life of the gear.

Logistics

Big gear, shipped properly.

Tents, fridge slides and roof racks are awkward freight — and most e-commerce warehouses aren’t set up for it. Ridgemark runs a small logistics operation that is, and the pricing reflects a service that actually meets the gear at the door.

For orders above a certain weight or footprint we move to scheduled freight, with a signature and a real ETA. The money you spend on shipping is the money you don’t spend on a dented solar panel.

White-glove freight

Tents, fridges and rack systems ship with scheduled, signature-required delivery and on-site handling for oversized orders. Most North American and EU destinations are door-to-door in 5–10 business days.

Financing on larger orders

Orders above €1,500 can be split across 6, 12 or 24 months through our lending partner, with a soft credit check that doesn’t affect score. Subject to regional availability.

International warranty

Every item ships with the manufacturer’s full international warranty, plus a single Ridgemark contact who handles the claim, the paperwork and the return label. No tickets, no call centres.

Two weeks in the High Sierra, August

We ran a 2 kWh portable power station, a rooftop tent and a slide-out kitchen across 1,800 km of dirt. The notes below are what worked, what failed, and what we pulled from the catalogue.

What changed in LiFePO4 this year

Three newgeneration LiFePO4 stations landed on the desk. Cycle life, charge curves and cold-weather derating — the details that actually determine whether a unit earns a listing.

The case for paying more for a roof rack

Cheaper racks deform, whistle and shed finish at year two. The dynamic load rating on a premium rack isn’t marketing — it’s the difference between a quiet highway and a vibrating one.
